Choose the Correct Records Office
Current county-jail questions should begin with Marion County Sheriff and Marion County Jail, 204 N. Washington Street, Salem, IL 62881, telephone (618) 548-2141. Sheriff Kevin W. Cripps's official page does not list separate records-office hours, a dedicated booking-record line, or an online booking request form. Use the general sheriff and jail number to ask for the proper records custodian. The county FOIA contact is a fallback, not a dedicated jail records desk: Attn. Different offices answer different questions. Use these routes to avoid sending a request to an agency that does not hold the needed file:
- For a booking sheet or maintained booking photograph, begin with the county arrest-record search path, then contact the sheriff or the police agency that made the arrest.
- For court supervision, case status, or the final disposition, use the Marion County Circuit Clerk and its linked Judici case search. The clerk states that warrant information is not provided by phone.
- For a recent event, use Arrested Today for same-day verification or the Arrest Reports page for the wider local-news and records route.
- For release or transfer alerts about one person, use Illinois VINE and confirm fresh custody information with Marion County Jail.
- For custody at Marion County Jail, call the jail directly. This project does not publish facility pages, a jail roster, or a booking-photo gallery.
- For a person in state prison or on parole, use the Illinois Department of Corrections Inmate Search. IDOC is not the county pretrial-custody source.
- For federal custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. For immigration custody, use the official ICE Online Detainee Locator.
